Why does trauma need a holistic mind and body approach?

Trauma is not just a mental hurdle; it's a multi-dimensional challenge that affects us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Individuals that have experienced  trauma often struggle with a range of difficulties, from anxiety and depression to difficulties in relationships and self-care.

But what if I told you that healing from trauma requires more than just addressing the mind?

The Body Keeps the Score

In his groundbreaking work, "The Body Keeps the Score," Bessel Van Der Kolk reveals how trauma reshapes the brain and leaves an imprint on the body.

Trauma isn't just a memory—it's an ongoing presence within us, influencing our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

To truly heal, we need an approach that recognises the intricate connections between mind and body.

The Impact of Trauma

Individuals that have experienced trauma (however big or small), can present with a range of symptoms, from hypervigilance and avoidance to reliving traumatic events through nightmares and flashbacks.

These symptoms extend beyond mental health, affecting physical health and overall quality of life. This is why I offer trauma-informed yoga, embodied movement, psychological therapy, and life coaching—a comprehensive approach to support you to move these emotions through the body.

The Three Stages of Trauma Recovery

Safety and Stabilisation: Creating a sense of safety within your body, emotions, and environment is crucial. Throughout my work, I focus on developing coping skills, managing overwhelming emotions, and building a strong support system

Overcoming Traumatic Memories: Processing trauma involves putting words to experiences and emotions, helping eliminate triggers associated with specific memories. Mind-body therapies play a pivotal role in this stage, allowing us to grieve and move forward.

Integration and Living in the Present: As you develop resilience and find meaning in your experience, you'll reconnect with the present moment and make choices aligned with your well-being. Trauma no longer defines you; it's a part of your story that you've transcended.
